7 Things To Do In Langkawi Island

Let us help you plan for your Langkawi trip. If you don’t have the slightest idea of what to do in Langkawi, here are seven things to do in Langkawi.

Langkawi is well known for its pristine sandy white beaches and Instagram worthy picturesque places. Langkawi is also a duty-free island. If you love the sun, the beaches and shopping, it’s heaven-sent.

1. The Beaches of Langkawi

A Langkawi trip without visiting the beach is like not visiting Langkawi at all. You have abundance of beaches to choose from. Pantai Cenang, Pantai Tengah, Pantai Kok, Pantai Tanjung Rhu, Pantai Pasir Hitam and many more.

The one you should not miss is Pantai Cenang. It is the most popular and a favourite among tourists. It is at the south-west shoreline of Langkawi.

Other than swimming, you have the choice to try both motorized and non-motorized activities such as jet ski, parasailing, and the banana boat ride.

With cafes, restaurants and duty-free outlets, there are many things to do here. It also has a kid-friendly attraction – Underwater World Langkawi.

If you prefer something quieter, then head north to Tanjung Rhu. Due to its slightly secluded location, it is not as packed as Pantai Cenang. Tanjung Rhu is one of the most scenic and romantic beaches in Langkawi. Ideal for lovebirds.

And nothing beats ending the day with the magnificent sunset view at either of the beaches.

2. Snorkelling

You can snorkel at some of the beaches of Langkawi island. One of them is Pantai Teluk Datai. Unfortunately, you have to be the guest of the five-star resorts there, The Datai and The Andaman.

Another alternative is Tanjung Rhu where you can take a short boat ride to the nearby Pulau Chabang. You can also walk there during low tide, but it is not advisable.

The most excellent place for Snorkelling is Pulau Payar Marine Park which is about 30 km south of the main island. The park comprises of four islands. Pulau Kaca, Pulau Lembu, Pulau Segantang with Pulau Payar being the biggest.

These islands are preserved by the Fisheries Department of Kedah to maintain its pristine condition. Even fishing is not allowed, and none of the islands is inhabited.

3. Theme Park

If you prefer freshwater compared to saltwater, then check out Splash Out. It is a brand new water theme park in Langkawi next to Bella Vista Hotel in Kuah.

It is huge. The water park is as big as seven football fields in size and has 12 thrilling slides and rides. Including a 6-storey tall water slide.

4. Island Hopping

Langkawi is a paradise of an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea. Most of the islands are uninhabited. To experience the best of Langkawi, you must join an island hopping tour.

Rather than taking a boat tour like most people, try island hopping on a jet ski. It’s a bit expensive. Ten times the boat tour price per person to be exact, but it will be a thrilling adventure.

The islands you should expect to visits are Pulau Dayang Bunting, Pulau Singa Besar and Beras Basah Island. More on this at our  <##LINK TO THE OTHER ARTICLE##>  article.

5. Shopping in Langkawi

Langkawi is a shopping paradise. The items that you can get at duty-free prices are chocolates, alcoholic drinks, cigarettes, cigars, perfumes, kitchenware, apparel, and cosmetics.

Places to go to are The Zon Shopping Paradise, Coco Valley, and the Haji Ismail Group.

6. Try Batik Painting

The Atma Alam Batik Village is a must-stop place if you want to experience the Batik process. They have pre-drawn batik designs on cloth that you can colour to your creativity.

The main attraction here is the selection of Batik products. You can get authentic and beautiful Batik souvenirs to bring home. And the price is quite reasonable too. They have dresses, scarves, blouses, shirts, placemats, napkins, purses, cosmetic bags, and even toys.

Still don’t know what to do in Langkawi?

7. Try Out Langkawi’s Local Street Food

Kuah’s night market is the largest. It opens every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. The night market of Kampung Temonyong is the most popular with tourists because of its location at Pantai Cenang. It opens every Thursday.

The allure of food everywhere. There are fried bananas, fish crackers, fried noodles, laksa, chicken rice, and many other local delicacies that a foreigner may have trouble pronouncing. Just make sure you come hungry.

You can also find an extensive array of inexpensive clothes, trinkets, imitation goods, and many other knick-knacks. Haggling is most welcome. If you are looking for a bargain, don’t miss the night markets.

Both night markets should be in your Langkawi trip’s itinerary.
