Five of the Most Interesting Places in Langkawi

There are so many exciting places in Langkawi. You would need months to stand a chance at taking it all in. When you only have a few short days, it’s good to arrive with a plan, which is why we’re here to help you make the most of your time in this beautiful destination.

From marvels of nature to the technical wizardry and creativeness of humankind, Langkawi has something for everyone. Here are just a few of our favorite locations that we think make up some of the most interesting places in Langkawi.

SkyCab – Perhaps the Best Place in Langkawi

SkyCab travels over nature’s rooftop to give you a 360-degree unfettered view of the dense canopy of the tropical jungle below. You will feel like you are soaring with the birds as you travel more than 1,700 meters suspended in the air.

During your journey, you will be treated to the majestic panorama of the land below, from sweeping views of the main island to the many surrounding islands dotting the vast ocean expanse.  With the Langkawi Sky Bridge close by and cafes at either end of the journey, SkyCab scores highly as one of the most interesting places in Langkawi.

Gunung Raya – Nature Up Close

Once you’ve enjoyed the breathtaking views from above, Gunung Raya lets you connect with nature at a more personal level. A dense rain forest situated 881 meters above sea level is home to many varied and fascinating creatures such as flying foxes, macaque monkeys, leaf monkeys, mountain hawk eagles, squirrels, great hornbills, and white-bellied sea eagles.

If you’re a hiking enthusiast, the Gunung Raya will provide a worthy challenge. The terrain can be quite demanding, so a guide is recommended for occasional hikers.

Pulau Payar Marine Park

Pulau Paya Marine Park is just 30 km (18 miles) south of Langkawi Island and provides a pristine location to experience the blue depths and the abundant marine life that calls it home.

Perhaps the best feature that marks this location as a worthy contender for one of the most interesting places in Langkawi is the beautiful Coral Garden. The area is populated with vibrantly colored corals crowding the ocean floor, with barracuda, clownfish, blacktip reef shark, angelfish, and blue-spotted ray, making up just a few of the local inhabitants.

Langkawi Art in Paradise 3D Museum

When you’re done soaking up the beauty of nature, a visit to Langkawi Art in Paradise 3D Museum may make for a relaxing change of pace. Inside the museum are more than 200 works of art, spread over nine interactive zones, and three stories.

Not only is this museum the second largest in the world, but the art it houses is comprised of 3-D artworks that look incredibly lifelike, especially in photographs. Featuring an eclectic mix of styles such as fantasy, ancient castles, Egyptian, and Malaysian, the unique artwork helps to make the Langkawi Art in Paradise museum the best location in Langkawi for indulging your creative side.

Taman Lagenda Langkawi

If you haven’t yet had your fill of museums, but want to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, the Taman Lagenda folklore-themed park is another one of the most interesting places in Langkawi.

You can wander around on foot in this open-air museum or hire a buggy to travel around and learn more about the culture of the area from 17 colorful sculptures. Each creation depicts a local legend and includes a plaque to regale you with tales of heroic giants, princesses, mythical birds, and evil ogres. It also makes a fantastic location to enjoy a jog or picnic with your family.
