Langkawi – 5 Hidden Gems

Langkawi is a tourist destination known for its pristine beaches of white sand and sparkling turquoise waters, majestic mountain peaks, and dense tropical jungles and rainforests. There is a diverse landscape to explore, and tons of things to see and do that will add up to an unforgettable adventure.

Paragliding Experience

If you’re a fan of adrenaline-pumping experiences, then the Langkawi Paragliding experience is right up your alley. Soar 300 meters above sea level and enjoy the beach from a bird’s eye view. Sunglasses are recommended to keep the wind and sun out of your eyes. You can also enjoy the thrill with up to two of your buddies, or double up with your significant other.

Location: Opposite Bon Ton, Jalan Kuala Muda, 07000 Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia

Pulau Payar

Pulau Payar is nestled between Penang and Langkawi. It offers visitors the chance to swim, snorkel, or dive in crystal clear waters where they can witness many different sea creatures going about their lives in their natural habitat. The excellent diving has made Pulau Payar one of Malaysia’s most famous locations, with resort-style living available close-by in one of the many resorts dotting the coastline.

Ayar Hangat Village

Ayar Hangat Village is the location of an extremely rare saltwater spring. The area provides a massage pool where visitors can find the ultimate in soothing relaxation when they immerse themselves in the unique hot water spring. Private bathrooms can accommodate up to 8 people.

Durian Perangin Falls

The Durian Perangin Falls cascade over 14 different tiers for a total of 811 meters down Mount Raya. They are located on the northeastern side of Langkawi, and north of Kilim Village. You can visit anytime, but the falls are at their peak during the wet season between September and October.

Each tier of the waterfall gives you the chance to experience the view from different altitudes. The natural pools at the base of most levels provide ample opportunities for a refreshing dip. As you walk through the area, you will come across conveniently placed huts and gazebos nestled among the trees, where you can sit and enjoy the shade while listening to the delightful bird songs.

It’s not a hard walk, but wear good shoes so you can fully enjoy the easy hike to the top, where you will be able to take in all that the beautiful and expertly manicured gardens have to offer.  Entry is free, and there are no restrictions on entry times during the day. There are also small stalls and shops selling refreshments and souvenirs.

Tanjung Rhu Beach

Beach lovers will be delighted with the pure white sand and the clear blue waters of Tanjung Rhu beach, a secluded bay on the northeastern tip of Langkawi. If you prefer to get away from the main tourist crowds, there’s no better place to do it. Some of the island’s most prestigious luxury resorts are nearby, where visitors can revel in the quiet solitude while swimming and snorkeling in relative privacy.

These are just a few of the hidden gems dotted around beautiful Langkawi, but there are many more experiences to be had, including the Langkawi SkyBridge for some of the best ocean views anywhere in the world. The nearby cable car ride is also not to be missed.
